New Zealand swimmer Melissa Ingram continues on her winning way in the latest FINA World Cup meet in Stockholm today.

The Beijing Olympian won the final of the women’s 200m backstroke on the first night of finals today.

Ingram, 23, who qualified third fastest in her heat, controlled the race to beat off world record-holder Sophie Edington (Australia) in the final. She clocked a superb 2:04.88 to earn an impressive 970 FINA points towards her chase for a top three finish overall in the World Cup circuit that finishes this weekend in Berlin.

Ingram was 18/100ths outside her New Zealand record and is her fourth swim in the 2min 4sec range to emphasis her current consistent world class form.

She will compete in the 400m freestyle tomorrow.

Result, 200m backstroke:
Melissa Ingram (NZL) 2:04.88, 1; Sophie Edington (AUS) 2:06.18, 2; Tomoya Fukuda (JPN) 2:06.40, 3.
