It's official, Kiwi women would rather apply an anti-ageing face cream than go under the knife in a bid to remain youthful according to a new study.

The findings were released today as part of the Olay Regenerist Survey* – an independent study carried out in conjunction with the launch of new Olay Regenerist Wrinkle Revolution Complex – the comprehensive wrinkle fighter that reduces the appearance of lines and wrinkles in one application.

The study investigated New Zealand women’s attitudes towards cosmetic surgery and the use of anti-ageing creams. Nine out of 10 (89%) women surveyed said they would choose the option of using a face cream over having a cosmetic procedure to turn back the hands of time.

The survey found that despite our dislike of wrinkles more than three quarters of us (77%) thought we should age naturally instead of having a cosmetic procedure and one in five of us thought that Kiwi celebrities had too much work done.

Nearly a fifth (19%) of Kiwi women said having wrinkles appear made them feel sad or depressed and more than half (51%) said this was the most obvious sign of ageing.

Our dislike of cosmetic procedures was further evidenced with more than eight out of 10 or (82%) saying we would not recommend a cosmetic procedure to a friend, and more than a quarter (28%) saying we would be offended if someone asked us if we had had a cosmetic procedure.

Top Auckland appearance medicine expert Dr Garsing Wong says the survey confirms what we all believe to be the quintessential Kiwi attitude regarding modesty and simplicity.

“Ageing gracefully does not mean neglecting yourself. It means choosing simple, non-surgical interventions to keep your skin looking healthy.  Good clinically proven topical skincare products are an important and integral part of your healthy skin regime, which ultimately leads to better cosmetic results,” says Dr Wong.

“The survey highlights how appearance can affect a significant proportion of people, which is often unsaid.  A majority of women want to age naturally, and having effective face creams is an acceptable method.

Olay Regenerist Wrinkle Revolution Complex is the perfect choice for firmer, smoother looking skin without the drastic measures!

Filling the valleys between fine lines and wrinkles with a blend of light manipulating micro fillers, Olay Regenerist Wrinkle Revolution Complex - from Procter & Gamble, the company behind some of New Zealand’s most well-known brands – helps eliminate the shadowing that creates the contrast of a wrinkle, relaxing their appearance.

Olay Regenerist has a unique penta-peptide formulation, proven to be an effective anti-ageing cocktail that provides hydration to the skin to deliver anti-ageing results. Olay Regenerist Wrinkle Revolution Complex fights today’s wrinkles, thanks to the innovations in light optics and also helps fight tomorrow’s with its powerful biopeptide + B3 complex formula, which hydrates to reduce the appearance of even deeper eye lines – in just 14 days!

Dr Wong trialled** the wonder cream in his own clinic on 10 patients over a nine week period to see just how effective it was and was pleasantly surprised by the results.

“I have trialled the new Olay Regenerist Wrinkle Revolution Complex on my patients. The product was liked by all my patients who tried it with some impressive results in a short period of time. Visible results were seen unexpectedly in one of my patient’s hands when she only applied the Olay Regenerist Wrinkle Revolution Complex to the back of one hand.”

With its high concentration of intense humectants, Olay Regenerist Wrinkle Revolution Complex’s formula also helps hydrate your skin, making it more supple to expression lines. Research suggests that hydration may help slow the progression of expression lines to permanent fine lines and wrinkles – your perfect skin solution this season and beyond.

Psychologist Sara Chatwin says it’s interesting that New Zealand women would rather use facial creams as opposed to resorting to more invasive surgical procedures when it comes to beauty regimes.

“It may well be that NZ women prefer to take a holistic approach to health and beauty before contemplating surgery or other beauty procedures, perhaps we are more relaxed and happy about the way we look.

“It makes sense to investigate more simple options for beauty like creams, before women even think about invasive procedures involved with surgeries” says Chatwin.

The research also showed that while the majority of Kiwi women would say no to a cosmetic procedure one third (38%) said they would consider it if money wasn’t an issue.

More than one in three (42%) of Kiwi women said they knew someone who has had a cosmetic procedure with females more likely to know someone than males (34%).
