Well we weren’t in Kansas were we Dorothy? I was in the Kingdom of Niue.

Niue is a Pacific Island paradise with a difference, it’s one of the smallest countries on earth and is the largest raised coral atoll in the world and untouched since time begun.

There’s one flight a week, so there’s no going back until a week later, so make sure you bring your mountain bike, goggles and an underwater camera.

What an amazing place, Niue is what the Pacific used to be, slow, quiet and a little romantic. The place is almost un-touched since it was forced out of the ocean many years ago, however they say that she will fall into a massive under water canyon in a 100,000 years’ time so you will need to be quick to see her before she sinks back into the ocean. There are many adventures to be had with beautiful clear blue sea, vision for metres in every direction above and below the water. There are many Coastal Caves and walkways to be explored.

I was there developing the courses for the Rockman Triathlon Week.

The Rockman week is 4 races.

Day 1 – Monday 5th November ROCK-Run 8km, which will start and finish from the Alofi Wharf. The run will take you through town and inland along the road past the High School before following an off road track within the local wilderness bringing you back out onto he main road for the final 2.5km to the wharf

Day 2 – Tuesday 6th November ROCK-Bike MTB 40km will see you depart and return to the wharf on your mountain bike taking you inland crisscrossing the island roads and tracks. You will be surprised with now much elevation you will encounter.

Day 3 – Wednesday 7th November ROCK-Swim Ocean Swim 1km. You will start in the water and follow a course around the mooring buoys situated off the coastline returning you the wharf. There will be plenty to see while you are swimming in the ocean as the vision is amazing.

Day 4 - Thursday 8th November ROCK-Tri the Rockman Triathlon - putting it all together, you will Swim1k, MTB 40k and Run 8k over what you experienced during the week.

What’s on offer is 1 Week in the Pacific, 4 Races, and 2 Titles – Rockman & Rockwoman with thousands in prize money up for grabs.

There are Team and Duathlon options available so you can cut & paste your Rockman week to suit.

The plan is to have prizes for each day and your placing will gain points, so the most consistent male & female competitors will win the ROCKMAN Title.

So if you have ever wanted to race off-shore and wanted to be involved in something quite special then checkout the Rockman and become an Original Rockman competitor.
ARE YOU READY TO BE ROCKED??!!
All the event details and travel options can be found on www.niueisland.com  and www.wildsidetravel.co.nz and don’t forget to bring your snorkeling gear and a sunhat with you….it’s more than just a race!!
Oh yeah, practice your waving as once you are on the Island you become extended family everybody waves and smiles at you.

So I will see you there then?
