Getting out of bed to exercise in the morning just got easier, with the launch of a mobile app called SunsUp, which checks the weather before deciding whether your alarm should go off.

The SunsUp app is a smart alarm that monitors the weather. It wakes users up if the weather’s not too windy, rainy or cold – depending on conditions they’ve selected.

Creator Christine Langdon is a keen cyclist and runner from Wellington, a city well-known for its blustery wind.

“I’ve had so many days when I’ve set my alarm for 5.30am and woken up to hear wind and rain outside.” Christine says. “But what’s worse is if I don’t set the alarm and wake up to find I’ve slept through a beautiful, still morning. I never want to miss those!

“I created SunsUp so I’d never sleep through a perfect morning – but could sleep in when the weather’s not so good.

“A lot of serious runners and cyclists will go out in any weather, but SunsUp is perfect for people like me who love fitness, but not enough to go out in 50 knot winds!

“Now you can plan your exercise and your sleep-ins around the wind and rain.”

SunsUp is being sold in the Apple Store and is compatible with iphone, ipad and ipod.
