With just one week remaining to enter the 2013 Environmental Grants Program, Canon are encouraging individuals and organisations throughout New Zealand to get applications in to win their share of $20,000 in product grants, to help New Zealanders continue to make a positive impact on the environment and community.

Applications are currently being sought across School, Tertiary, Regional and Grassroots categories, reaching out to kiwis around the country who are working on a project that is doing something positive for the environment.

Each winning recipient will have the opportunity to choose $5,000 worth of Canon product to help aid the success of their project; ranging from digital compact and SLR cameras, to binoculars, video cameras, projectors and printers.

“As any community based organisation knows, contributions can go a long way in realising a project’s success and there’s still time to take advantage of this opportunity” said Yusuke Mizoguchi, Managing Director of Canon New Zealand.

“We encourage community groups and individuals to send through an application if they believe their project is helping the environment and could achieve even more with some of Canon’s leading edge technology. We were really inspired by the quality of entries that we received last year and can’t wait to see the 2013 entries.

“Through these grants we aim to help reward and recognise some of the outstanding work taking place in communities throughout New Zealand and help continue to support the efforts of our local community.” says Yusuke.

Winners are selected based on the environmental merits of each project as well as the impact the Canon products would have on the success of each project.

Previous winners range from an indigenous wildlife sanctuary in the Marlborough Sounds, to a small rural school in the Hawkes Bay who are helping to save the declining bee population by creating a bee garden and making their own honey; to an inspirational sustainable garden project in the Auckland CBD, creating a sustainable site for children to grow, harvest, prepare and share fresh food as part of a school curriculum linked program.

This year grants will be awarded under the following categories:

·         Regional Award: An environmental project with significance to a rural or regional area;

·         School Award: An environmental project being run by a primary or secondary school community;

·         Grassroots Award: A community group with an income of $25,000 or less;
·         Tertiary Award: An environmental project being run by an individual within tertiary education;
