As the gates close on the Ellerslie International Flower Show for 2014, organisers say they are delighted with the public’s response to the new layout and record number of major gardens.

Show Managing Director Dave Mee say it was great to get so many wonderful comments from visitors, overseas horticultural media and international judges and to see Christchurch being promoted throughout New Zealand and around the world.

“We’re thrilled some people are even saying this was the best Ellerslie ever. They praised the quality of the exhibits, from the design to the plant material; that is fantastic for the gardening industry.

“This is also important for Ellerslie as it works to build its international reputation as one of the top garden shows in the world.”

Thousands came to the Show throughout the five days with the average visitor spending more than five hours on site enjoying the exhibits and leaving with a smile on their face.

Early estimates suggest there was a slight increase in visitor numbers at this year’s Ellerslie International Flower Show. Last year, 45,500 people attended the Show. An accurate number will be available this time next week.
