From today children aged 6 to 12 can sign up to show their cycling skills in the Mutual Community mini tour for kids presented by UniSA.

The event will take place on Sunday 24 January at the Adelaide City Council Street Circuit, just a few hours before the world’s elite cyclists race the final Stage of the Santos Tour Down Under.

Mutual Community’s General Manager Eric Granger says the event is a great outing for children and parents alike.

“The Mutual Community mini tour for kids gives children a fun and active way to be involved in one of Australia’s greatest sporting events,” says Eric Granger.

“The event is designed to meet Mutual Community’s basic principles of community involvement and encouraging healthy activity.

In 2009, a record-breaking 357 children took part in the fun, which was more than double the number of participants than the previous year. “

“The atmosphere at this event is brimming with excitement and this is a fantastic way for young cyclists to showcase their skills and have a great time.”

For 20 minutes children can ride the special mini tour track in front of the cheering Santos Tour Down Under crowd, completing as many laps as they can.

“Only 600 children can participate in the event therefore registering early is important to guarantee a place in the ride,” says Eric Granger.

The children involved in the event will be given a special Mutual Community mini tour for kids T-shirt, refreshments and goodie bag at the end of the ride.

The event is part of the 2010 Santos Tour Down Under’s recreational ride program, the Škoda Breakaway Series.

The Škoda Breakaway Series also includes the Mutual Community Challenge Tour, presented by The Advertiser, which gives amateur cyclists the chance to ride Stage 4 of the Santos Tour Down Under on 22 January 2010.

Entry to the Mutual Community mini tour for kids costs $40 and registrations close on Friday 8 January 2010. For more information or to register online visit www.tourdownunder.com.au.

The 2010 Santos Tour Down Under will be held in Adelaide and regional South Australia from 17-24 January 2010.
