Star North Shore swimmer Alannah Jury dominated the New South Wales Open Water swim championships near Sydney at the weekend.

Jury, 18, took out both the 5km and 10km open water titles in emphatic fashion at the Sydney International Rowing Centre at Penrith.

Auckland’s Philip Ryan enjoyed considerable success also winning the 5km and 10km double in the 19 years and over division.

Jury was in a class of her own to win the 5km by more than 40 seconds in a slick 1:00:58 and was totally dominant in winning the 10km race by more than two minutes in 2:04:46.

Kiwi teammates Charlotte Webby (Bell Block, Taranaki) was second to Jury in the 10km in 2:06:57 while Georgia Hind (Capital, Wellington) was third in the 5km race.

Jury came into international prominence this year when she placed 13th in the FINA world championships over 10km.

Ryan (Waterhole) outsprinted fellow New Zealander Casey Glover (SwimZone, Wellington) by just 3/10ths of a second to win the men’s 10km race in an exciting duel. The kiwi pair linked with 17-18 years winner Sam Sheppard (Victoria) to clear out from pack in an exciting race. Ryan also claimed the double in winning the 19 years title over 5km in 57:04.66 with Glover fourth.
