Round Three of Dextro Energy Triathlon ITU World Championship Series

For the eighth year in a row the top triathletes in the world will compete in Casa de Campo Park in the heart of Madrid.

The course in the Spanish capital is sure to be one of the most difficult on the World Championship Series this year and includes 12-percent grade climb over 400 meters, which the athletes will be summit eight times throughout the 40K bike leg. Qualification for the 2012 Olympic Games will begin in Madrid, giving athletes an opportunity to earn points toward a spot at the next Olympic Triathlon in London.

About the city:
With a population of over 3.2 million Madrid is the largest city in Spain and third-largest metropolitan area in Europe. Sitting at almost 700 meters above sea level, Madrid's climate is dry with very warm afternoons and cool nights. The city has served as the finish of the world famous Vuelta a Espana cycling race for the last 75 years and has also been a finalist for three Summer Olympic bids (1972, 2012, 2016).

COURSE PROFILE:
Swim - Two-lap, 1.5-kilometre lake swim with a dive start off of a pontoon.
Bike - Eight-lap, 40-kilometre, hilly and technical ride. Athletes will circle Casa de Campo Park, located just west of downtown Madrid.
Run - Four-lap, 10-kilometre run around Casa de Campo Park with a number of rolling hills.
