Organic Baby Food - Born Naturally in New Zealand


Canterbury based Green Monkey Limited recently announced the launch of its groundbreaking Organic Baby Food with its highly acclaimed & innovative shelf stable Green MonkeyTM pouch system. Following on from its hugely popular frozen Organic Baby Food, the Green Monkey brand has gone one step further with a revolutionary breakthrough in developing its new “Super Premium” Organic Baby Food range.

 

 

Introducing their exciting ”organics born naturally” food concepts Managing Director Charlotte Rebbeck explains: "We believe we have attained an entirely new standard of excellence in baby food, making it easier for parents to achieve convenience without jeopardising the natural quality of our Certified Organic Ingredients.”

We began with a design led philosophy to bring to life the most natural and convenient baby food on earth. We source pure organic produce, nurtured by passionate organic farmers in New Zealand’s pristine environment. Our wholesome recipes are pressure cooked by sophisticated processing technology to seal in the fresh flavour. The Green MonkeyTM pouch system delivers real food with the ultimate in convenience whilst maintaining world-class food safety standards.

Green Monkey is a super premium baby food developed for babies from around six months of age. Based on traditional homemade recipes all our ingredients are sourced entirely from Aotearoa - New Zealand. Green Monkey contains 100% Organic Food, we do not use any fillers, additives or preservatives. Our ingredient lists all add up to 100% so as parents you know exactly what is going into your baby's mouth. The innovative pouch system offers superior flavour, freshness and ease of use. The convenience of the packaging also offers the flexibility to change textures as required by adding to rice, pasta or meats.

Some of the key ingredient attributes include: 100% Organic, No Additives, No Preservatives, No Added Sugar/Salt, Dairy & Egg Free, Gluten free, Wheat free, No Soy. Being shelf stable results in no freezer or refrigerator being necessary prior to opening, babies can easily be served straight from the pouch and the food can be readily heated inside the pouch by simply placing it in a cup of hot water. It is hard to imagine what could be simpler to use. The new range has 3 delicious variants – Apple & Blueberry, Carrot & Parsnip, and Pumpkin, Silverbeet & Sweet Potato all of which only use locally grown Certified Organic Produce.

A new driving force behind Green Monkey is Andy Macbeth, Business Arkitect and former CEO of Cookie Time & One Square Meal who joined the Green Monkey team in 2007. Almost immediately he set the team the task of analysing the merits and pitfalls of its existing frozen baby food product offering. Macbeth elaborates: “Early on in this process we recognised that having nailed the quality and simplicity of the organic food itself that there was a need to re-engineer the convenience factor of Green Monkey in order to truly satisfy the needs of parents seeking super high quality Organic Baby Food”.

This creative thinking built a desire to rapidly adapt from frozen to a shelf stable type product. The final concept we have now launched has integrated all of the attributes we sought to have in order to create what we believe to be “the most natural and convenient baby food on earth”. Specifically, on the eye catching design Macbeth further adds: “wanting to go beyond the somewhat traditional baby food packaging design we consciously chose to have an edgy, more contemporary and distinct kiwiana look which challenged existing design parameters within the baby food category where pictures of a baby are the norm”. The new packaging has retained all of the natural benefits of our original frozen baby food but also has the added advantage of being so easy to use plus the added bonus of being so stlyie and very tactile to hold for babies and adults.

We are delighted that our pouch packaging has propelled the convenience of our baby food into the future, whilst recognising that natural organic foods were born from humble beginnings and we never wanted to compromise the integrity of our Certified Organic ingredients. All of the countless hours of design effort with a wider team including Andy’s designer colleague, maestro Simon Mulligan, appear to have paid dividends culminating in timely contact just last week when Green Monkey was informed it has been selected as a finalist in 6 categories of the coveted 2008 Massey Food Awards.


Green MonkeyTM pouches are initially available for direct delivery through our new website, from participating child care centres as a fundraising opportunity and specialty natural food stores. Depending on consumer demand and market factors we will subsequently consider other more mainstream channels.
